Metropolitan Title Company Acquires Indiana Firm

HOWELL, MICHIGAN (May 1, 1998)  Metropolitan Title Company has acquired York Title & Escrow Company, based in South Bend, Indiana.  The announcement was made jointly by William G. York, President of York Title, and Ken Lingenfelter, President/CEO of Metropolitan Title.

According to Lingenfelter, the acquisition is consistent with the company's mission to become the Midwest's premier real estate resource.  The firm currently employs over 700 people in its 53 offices throughout Michigan.  Lingenfelter added, "York's strong management and technological capabilities made the South Bend firm especially attractive to our company."

York Title & Escrow, Inc. is one of South Bend's oldest firms, dating its origins back to 1956.  In the nearly 20 years York owned the company, the staff has grown from 11 to the current 80.  It operates four offices in the greater South Bend area.

Metropolitan Title began in 1976 in Grand Rapids.  Its corporate office is in Howell and regional centers are in Holland and Bloomfield Hills.
